Before composer Chuck Marohnic began to fully immerse himself in the remarkable Psalms Reborn project, he helped release a Jazz Hymnal, which collected fresh, creative, appealing arrangements of notable Christian repertoire. As an ongoing ministry initiative, Music Serving the Word is delighted to publish newly edited versions for many of these original Jazz Hymnal charts.

Our latest REVISED releases from the original Jazz Hymnal songbook are four Christmas carols: Away in a Manger, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, O Come, All Ye Faithful and Go Tell It On The Mountain. Each selection features a familiar, beloved hymn recast with a new, contemporary harmonic setting. As an arranger, Chuck Marohnic succeeds in honoring the original intent and character of each carol, while gloriously reframing these Season of Advent classics for modern worshippers.

As you and/or your church head toward Christmastime, we hope you will consider these latest REVISED offerings from the original Jazz Hymnal. Each piece is notated in traditional, solo piano fashion. Additionally, each carol also includes chord symbols, allowing both classical and jazz pianists to enjoy performing the arrangements. Merry Christmas!
